LUBBOCK, Texas (Tribune News Service) — The VFW Post 2466, the Purple Heart Chapter 0900 and the Friends of the Monument of Courage will host a memorial at 7:30 p.m. Saturday to honor Capt. Joshua Meadows, a Texas Tech graduate who died in 2009 while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Afghanistan.

The event, at which social distancing and face coverings are requested, will be at the Monument of Courage at 84th Street and Nashville Avenue, according to organizers.

Meadows, who was from Elgin, Texas, graduated from Tech in 2002 with a degree in business.

He followed in his father's footsteps by joining the Marines. He married his college sweetheart, who was 8½-months pregnant with their child when Meadows was killed in action on Sept. 5, 2009.

During the event, speakers will share stories about Meadows, his life and time in service. The event will also feature live music performed by two Texas Tech music students.
