Verizon allowing free calls to Haiti from Misawa, Okinawa bases
MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Base residents who use Verizon telephone service can call Haiti free through the end of the month, according to a news release.
Verizon spokeswoman said that includes people living at Misawa and on bases on Okinawa, where Verizon provides services.
All calls to Haiti from residential landlines and Verizon Wireless phones — including those across the United States — will be free until Sunday, according to the release.
“Waiving the calling charges will help our customers focus on tracking down and keeping in touch with their family and friends without having to also worry about the cost of the call,” Susan Retta, vice president of consumer products for Verizon, said in the news release.
Calls made between Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 will be credited on future bills.
