(Tribune News Service) — She voted "present" on the winter waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Rebellious Rep. Tulsi Gabbard went surfing Wednesday in New Hampshire, where the Hawaii Democrat is hoping to make waves in the second-in-the-nation Democratic presidential nominating contest next month.

"There is absolutely no better way to start the day and to start the year," Gabbard said in a video published by a CBS News reporter. "If we could go surfing every day, and bring everybody out, that'd be awesome."

The 38-year-old White House hopeful decked herself out in a wetsuit and toted a green surfboard into the frigid waters at Hampton Beach.

Gabbard surprised many in her party two weeks ago by voting "present" during the House impeachment of President Trump. She said in a statement that she split with the vast majority of Democrats on the vote because "removal of a sitting President must not be the culmination of a partisan process."

Gabbard's polling numbers aren't much hotter than the Atlantic, and 48% of Democratic voters view her unfavorably, according to a YouGov Poll conducted from Dec. 22 to Christmas Eve. Sixteen percent view her favorably, according to the pollster.
