SALT LAKE CITY — The remains of an Army helicopter pilot killed in a Nov. 20 crash while on a mission in Afghanistan are being brought back to Utah for burial.
The Utah National Guard said Friday that Kirk Fuchigami Jr.'s remains were scheduled to arrive Saturday at the Ogden-Hinkley Airport and then be transported to a mortuary in Brigham City.
Funeral services are scheduled Monday morning, followed by burial services that will include full military honors and a military aircraft flyover.
Department of Defense officials say the 25-year-old Fuchigami died Nov. 20 along with another pilot.
The crash occurred while Army crews were providing security for troops on the ground in eastern Logar Province outside of Kabul.
According to KUTV, Fuchighami was originally from Keaau, Hawaii. He married Corinne, Utah native McKenzie Norman in March.
