YAKIMA, Wash. (Tribune News Service) — Local students who are considering applying for military service academies are invited to a higher education-and-job training expo in Yakima next week.
The expo is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 15 at Yakima Valley College, 16th Avenue and Nob Hill Boulevard, according to a news release from U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse’s office.
Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy are scheduled to attend. Students can ask questions and can learn about the military academy nomination process. Newhouse’s staff also will be on hand to discuss application requirements.
Members of Congress may nominate a limited number of candidates for appointments to four of the five U.S. service academies. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination.
