RALEIGH, N.C. (Tribune News Service) — The first and second ladies of the United States plan to show their appreciation for military families on their upcoming visit to North Carolina.
First lady Melania Trump and second lady Karen Pence will visit U.S. service members at Fort Bragg, the White House announced Friday.
The visit is scheduled for Monday, during the “month of the military child,” and will include an appearance at an on-base middle school, according to a news release. The first lady is also set to deliver a message of gratitude to service members and their families, the White House says.
“I am looking forward to learning more about the incredible work that our brave men and women in uniform perform on a daily basis,” Melania Trump said in the release. “I am also eager to meet with their children and spouses who sacrifice in ways large and small so that the American people are safe.”
The Fayetteville military base contains U.S. Army Special Operations facilities. Monday’s visit will include an information session about training for those positions as well as demonstrations of special operations “capabilities,” according to the White House.
“I am always honored to have the opportunity to spend time with those who serve and work tirelessly to protect our freedoms,” Karen Pence said, per the release. “I am looking forward to our visit to Fort Bragg to offer support and encouragement to our Armed Forces and their families, who also serve.”
