SAN ANTONIO — A soldier collapsed and died after morning physical training Monday at Fort Carson, Colorado, Army officials said.

The soldier had just completed a run Monday when he or she collapsed. The soldier received first responder care from medics on the scene but died an hour later at the base hospital, according to a news release. The incident is under investigation, the release stated.

A Fort Carson public affairs spokeswoman declined to release any information about the soldier, including the name, service history and gender of the soldier until next of kin are notified.

This is the second soldier assigned to Fort Carson who has died this month. Sgt. Miguel Diaz, 26, was killed in an ATV accident off post July 3, a public affairs spokeswoman said.
