HOPE MILLS — Hope Mills police have charged a suspect with murder in connection to a June 24 shooting on North Main Street.

William Donelle Dillard, 26, has been charged with the first-degree murder of Kitric Shavoy Reeves Jr., according to a news release from Hope Mills police. Dillard is an Army sergeant stationed at Fort Bragg assigned to Company B, 407th Brigade Support Battalion, the release said.

Detectives with the Hope Mills Police Department took Dillard into custody Monday afternoon without incident, the release said. He was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center.

On June 24, officers responded to a call of shots fired near the Aqua nightclub about 2:07 a.m. They found Reeves with gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Reeves was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died, police said.

An earlier altercation may have led to the shooting, Hope Mills police have said.
