CAMP PENDLETON (Tribune News Service) — Three Marines who were stabbed during a fight over the weekend outside a bar in San Clemente are back with their unit, military officials said Monday, Aug. 6.
The Marines, two 21-year-old men and a 23-year-old man – are part of the 1st Battalion/4th Marines, said Capt. Paul Gainey, with the 1st Marine Division. As of Monday, the Marines were being treated on the base.
One of the suspects, Alexis Moreno-Aguirre, 24, was arrested by OCSD on suspicion of attempted murder. Another 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were detained by authorities but released at the scene, said OCSD Sgt. Sandra Longnecker.
“The 1st Marine Division is aware of an altercation that took place on the night of Aug. 3 at a San Clemente bar that left three Marines with non-life-threatening injuries,” Gainey said. “The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has taken suspects into custody and is investigating the situation.”
The fight broke out shortly after 1 a.m. in the 200 block of El Camino Real.
The Marine Corps will await the outcome of the investigation before doing its own review, Gainey said.
