U.K. Crime Scene: Man dragged into alley, threatened and robbed
BRANDON — A man in Brandon near RAFs Mildenhall and Lakenheath was forced to hand over his cash, phone and watch March 24 after he was dragged into an alley and threatened with a “machete-type knife,” Suffolk police reported.
The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. when three men in hooded tops pulled the man into an alley off White Hart Lane while he was talking on the phone. The victim was not hurt in the incident.
The Suffolk County Constabulary is looking for information on the case and is asking witnesses to call Brandon police at 01284 774100.
Bank robber gets away with unspecified amountNEWMARKET — A robber made off with an unspecified amount of money from a bank on Newmarket’s main street when he walked in and handed a note to a teller written on a napkin, according to a Suffolk County Constabulary news release.
The heist took place about 10 a.m. March 24. The man, described as white, in his early 30s with short dark hair and stubble, entered Abbey Bank on High Street and approached the female teller.
He then handed the demand for money and a bag to put the cash in to the teller, then left the bank and ran into Kingston passage, according to police. No one was hurt.
Police are anxious to talk to a person they believe was using an ATM in the bank at the time of the robbery and are asking for witnesses to call 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers at 0800 555111.
Seniors are targeted in distraction theftsSUFFOLK — Police are looking for information after two distraction thefts that took place in the eastern region last week.
In the first incident, a woman in her 80s went into her lounge and discovered a man standing there, according to a news release from the Suffolk Country Constabulary. The man approached the woman’s husband in their kitchen, and the couple then realized a second man was in the house. Both robbers fled, taking cash and an engagement ring.
In the second theft, an elderly woman in Muntford was distracted outside her home and later found that her house had been searched and some cash stolen, according to the release.
Police are urging residents to be aware of distraction crimes and alert police on 999 as soon as they suspect they’ve been targeted.
Man arrested under suspicion of stolen goodsSUTTON — A 26-year-old man was arrested when police raided his trailer March 28 and found a stash of suspected stolen goods and a small amount of drugs, according to a Cambridgeshire Constabulary news release.
The man, whose name was not released pending formal charges, was brought in around 7 a.m. after 10 officers executed a warrant on a vehicle and connected horse trailer in Sutton, near Ely, where they found a car stereo, a satellite navigation system, a laptop and a quantity of cannabis, the release reads.
