STOWMARKET — “An opportunist” in the town of Stowmarket, near Bury St. Edmunds, has been stealing bottles of milk from doorsteps in the early morning hours, the Suffolk County Constabulary has reported.

Between Aug. 1 and Aug. 14, close to a dozen missing milk deliveries were reported along Recreation Road in the town, a spokeswoman for the police said. Reports of milk and other dairy products being stolen from the delivery cart also have been logged with police, according to a news release.

Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call the Stowmarket police at 01284 774 100.

Man assaulted, robbed of his cell phoneNEWMARKET — A 21-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of his cell phone Aug. 11 around 10:20 p.m. in Newmarket, a release from the Suffolk police states.

The man was walking along the road when he was tapped on the shoulder from behind, then punched in the face when he turned to face the person, according to the report.

The man lost his phone in the process. The suspects, described as two white males, ran away after the attack, the release states.

Witnesses with information are asked to call Newmarket police at 01284 774 100 with information.

Information sought after car is damagedHOLYWELL ROW — Police are seeking information in the criminal damaging of a vehicle on Holywell Row adjacent to RAF Mildenhall.

Between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 15, a Jaguar parked along the road in the town was hit with what appears to be a baseball bat, smashing the windshield, according to a release from Suffolk police.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 01284 774 100.

Vigilance advised in Bury St. EdmundsBURY ST. EDMUNDS — Suffolk police have asked local residents to be extra vigilant following two robberies in three days in which cash and other items were taken from people in public places.

In the first, an 85-year-old woman reported that her bank card and keys were missing after an encounter with a “large-built” man in a beige coat who stood close to her in a bank Aug. 12, a Suffolk police report reads.

Then, on Aug. 15 a 22-year-old woman was bumped by a woman just after using a cash machine, causing her to drop her handbag.

She discovered after the encounter that her mobile phone and purse were missing, according to a Suffolk police release.
