Two members of the U.S. Army Europe leadership team have been nominated for their second stars. Brig. Gen. Yves J. Fontaine and Brig. Gen. Dennis L. Via were among 26 general officers nominated for promotion by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld last week.

Fontaine, who heads the logistics branch in USAREUR, previously served as commander of the 1st Corps Support Command in the U.S. and Iraq. He joined the military in 1976 and his first assignment was in Germany as a platoon leader with the 708th Maintenance Battalion.

Via, who joined the military in 1980, is the information management officer for USAREUR. He is also commander of the 5th Signal Command in Mannheim, Germany. Via was previously deputy director for operations for the Defense Information Systems Agency in Arlington, Va.

The men were both nominated for promotion to brigadier general on March 17, 2003.
