Two Spangdahlem airmen killed in car crash
KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – Two Spangdahlem Air Base airmen were killed and one was injured in a car crash Sunday on Autobahn 60 between Bitburg and Spangdahlem, according to a military news release.
Amanda Jotham and Brandon McDonald, both airmen first class, died in the 3:30 p.m. crash, the cause of which is still under investigation, Spangdahlem base officials said Thursday.
Jotham was assigned to the 52nd Security Forces Squadron and McDonald was a member of the 52nd Medical Operations Squadron.
The injured airman, whose name was not disclosed, received minor injuries and has been released from the hospital, base officials said.
Base spokesmen said they could not say whether the accident was a one-car crash, or whether other vehicles were involved.
A memorial service is planned for Jotham at 1 p.m. Friday in Spangdahlem’s base chapel. McDonald’s service will be at noon Monday in the base chapel.
Base officials Thursday could not verify the ages of the two airmen killed. A memorial website for Jotham notes she was 19 at the time of her death.
