ARLINGTON, Va. — Two sailors — one from the USS George Washington — have been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a weekend incident south of San Diego.

The Navy confirmed Tuesday that Petty Officer 2nd Class Cloris Cannon from the George Washington and Petty Officer 2nd Class Harvey Jordan from Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41 have been charged.

The two — both 26 years old — are in jail without the possibility of bail, said Lt. Dennis Brugos, a homicide investigator with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators believe that Jordan shot two men, killing one, Brugos said Tuesday.

The incident happened about 2 a.m. Saturday in National City, a sheriff’s department news release said.

After a report of shots fired, deputies found two gunshot victims: Aaron Wilkerson, 36, whose wound was not life-threatening; and Dennis Eugene Trollinger, 31, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said.

"It is believed that the victims and suspects were patrons at the N City Sports Lounge," the news release said.

Cannon and Jordan were reportedly arguing with two men just before the shooting.

The two suspects drove away in a red Ford Mustang GT with chrome wheels, the news release said.

The car also had a military sticker, prompting investigators to give local military bases a description of it, Brugos said.

After being contacted by Navy officials, deputies arrested Cannon and Jordan at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Brugos said.

The two are expected to be arraigned in the coming days, and the local district attorney will decide whether to pursue the case, he said.

The Navy had no further comment Tuesday.
