Two Naples, Italy-based rear admirals were given new flag assignments last week.

According to a Defense Department release, Rear Adm. Carl Mauney, commander of Submarine Group 8 in Naples, is being assigned as director of the Submarine Warfare Division N77 for the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington.

Rear Adm. Derwood Curtis, currently director of the Navy Europe Programs, Resources and Support/Director, Transformation Activities in Naples, is being assigned as a commander of Naval Surface Force for the U.S. Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, Va.

Mauney is replacing Rear Adm. Joseph Walsh, and Rear Adm. Jeffrey Fowler is replacing Mauney in Naples.
