Two Naples-based admirals in line for second star
Two Naples-based Navy rear admirals will be putting on their second stars after being nominated for promotion by President Bush.
Rear Adm. (Lower Half) Stanley Bozin, commander of Fleet Air Mediterranean and Navy Region Europe, and Rear Adm. (Lower Half) Paul Stanley, commander of Submarine Group Eight and the NATO Allied Submarines, Mediterranean, will be promoted to rear admiral.
The date when they will receive their second stars has not been determined, according to administrative personnel on both their staffs.
Bozin took over the Fleet Air Mediterranean combined staff in September 2003 and assumed control of Navy Region Europe last month.
Fleet Air Mediterranean is responsible for varying levels of logistics, operations and maintenance for air and surface forces in the Mediterranean region.
The Navy Region Europe staff is responsible for the management of the Navy’s bases in Europe, from Iceland to Souda Bay, Crete.
Stanley has twice held his current position, once as a captain between February and June 2002 and then again from June 2003.
Submarine Group Eight encompasses Task Force 69, the U.S. 6th Fleet’s submarine arm; submarines of NATO’s Allied Naval Forces South; La Maddalena, Italy-based Submarine Squadron 22; and the submarine repair and supply ship USS Emory S. Land.
Submarine Group Eight has no permanently assigned submarines but has operational control of U.S. submarines in the 6th Fleet region and NATO submarines in the Mediterranean.
