Two soldiers assigned to the 1st Armored Division’s Friedberg, Germany-based 1st Brigade Combat Team, were killed in action in the Anbar province west of Baghdad on Friday.

According to a release from Multi-National Corps-Iraq, the names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Although no other information was provided, most of the 1BCT soldiers in the Anbar province are deployed to the Ramadi area. Ramadi is one of the largest Sunni Arab cities in Iraq, and it has seen much insurgent activity since the beginning of the war.

U.S. forces have been part of a two-month-old campaign to tame the city. Some of the largest battles of the campaign have occurred within the past few days.
