SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — A trial date has been set for a USS Essex sailor indicted for larceny.
The first hearing for Seaman Apprentice Kenneth S. Mumma Jr., 23, a machinist’s mate, is scheduled for March 15 at 2:30 p.m. at Nagasaki District Court in Sasebo, court officials said.
Mumma is charged with stealing a bag from a 52-year-old woman in Sasebo on Jan. 21 while she made a call on a public telephone. He was arrested 40 minutes later and had been drinking, police said. The woman sustained minor injuries when she fell while chasing the thief.
