Top Navy unit on Guam to get new commander
TOKYO — Rear Adm. Paul J. Bushong will take the helm Saturday of Joint Region Marianas on Guam, the Navy’s top unit on the island, according to a Navy news release.
Bushong will succeed Rear Adm. Douglass T. Biesel during an 11 a.m. ceremony at Guam High School on the U.S. Naval Hospital Guam compound in Agana Heights.
In his new command, Bushong also will serve as the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Marianas and as the defense representative for Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau.
Bushong most recently served as commander of Submarine Group Two out of Groton, Conn.
Biesel will move to Silverdale, Wash., to serve as commander of Navy Region Northwest.
