TIMEDOUT:Sailor who died on USS Essex identified as senior chief
The Defense Department has identified the sailor who died aboard the USS Essex on Monday as Senior Chief Petty Officer Jason P. May.
The 38-year-old native of Chesterfield, Mich., complained of chest pain before collapsing during routine operations on the amphibious assault ship. Medical personnel were unable to revive him.
The Essex left San Diego in May to deploy to the 5th Fleet area of operations alongside the amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore and the amphibious transport dock USS Anchorage.
