RAF MILDENHALL, England — Golf fans stationed overseas will be able to see world famous golfers compete in this summer’s British Open Golf Championships at Royal Birkdale through Air Force package deals.

RAF Lakenheath’s Information, Tickets and Travel office has 40 tickets to the final two days of the 137th Open event, from July 18 to 20.

Tickets include two days of general admission to the event, two nights at a three-star bed and breakfast in Manchester and transportation throughout the trip via executive coach bus, all for 290 pounds (about $580).

Those making the trip alone will have to pay a 40-pound (about $80) single supplement. The coach bus will transport ticketholders from Lakenheath.

“It’s a good value,” Virginia Lamboll, Lakenheath’s ITT manager, said of the trip. “They’ll come back right after the trophy presentation.”

Lamboll added that customers also can buy only the tickets to the event from her office instead of the package deal, which is available to all Europe-based troops.

“Pick up the phone and call us,” she said. “We’re the only ITT office in Europe, as far as I know, selling these tickets.”

Although the office has sold only 10 tickets thus far, Lamboll expects sales to pick up.

“I think it’s still too early,” she said.

Past ITT trips to British Open events across the United Kingdom have proved popular among local airmen, she said.

This year, ticketholders will travel to the scenic course at Royal Birkdale, Merseyside, along the coast north of Liverpool. It will be the ninth time the course is to be used in the Open championships.
