Three U.S. sailors attached to the U.S. Navy base in Gaeta, Italy, were arrested for allegedly robbing a local resident over the weekend, Navy officials say.
The victim, who was attacked either late Friday or early Saturday, was treated at a local hospital near Rome, according to Lt. Cmdr. Wendy Snyder, a spokeswoman for Navy Region Europe.
The sailors are in a local jail and could be released early this week. U.S. officials are cooperating with Italian police, who made the arrests, in investigating the incident.
Snyder did not know the severity of the victim’s injuries or whether the person had been released from the hospital.
