A soldier assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division and three Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team 7 died Tuesday of wounds sustained during combat in Anbar province, the military said early Wednesday.
No names or details of the incidents were released.
But in a separate release, the military detailed some of the fighting taking place in Ramadi, the provincial capital.
According to the release, U.S. troops Tuesday night observed a “small number” of insurgents placing a roadside bomb. The troops attacked the group with small arms fire, killing two men, officials said. Three other insurgents were killed by a round fired from a tank’s main gun.
“There were secondary explosions and the remains of the [improvised bomb] continued to burn for about an hour,” according to the release.
Four hours later, in the same area, a U.S. vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb. As insurgents were trying to take equipment from the stricken vehicle, two were killed by small-arms fire and another two were killed by a tank round.
No U.S. or Iraqi troops were killed in the incidents, officials said.
