A pair of Army generals serving in Iraq have been tapped to lead two of the largest combat units in the Army, and a third general officer is on his way to Iraq, the Pentagon announced late Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, Multi-National Force-Iraq’s deputy chief of staff for strategic effects, will become commander of the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) and Fort Stewart, Ga., the Army chief of staff announced.

Maj. Gen. David M. Rodriguez, who until recently served as commander of Multi-National Division-Northwest in Iraq, will become commander of the 82nd Airborne Division.

A third general, Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, will move from commander of the 82nd Airborne to take Lynch’s job as deputy chief of staff for strategic effects at MNFI.
