This year, part of DODDS registration process can be done online
Pre-registration for the 2004-05 school year has begun — and this year, parents of Department of Defense Dependents Schools students can sign up new and returning students online.
Families are urged to register students returning to the DODDS-Europe system, whether it is to the same school the child is attending this year or one at the sponsor’s next duty station.
“As long as they are within our DODDS-Europe family, they are able to [register online],” said Candace Ransing, the DODDS-Europe deputy director.
She said that the option of registering returning students online will be available starting April 15. New students can register online immediately.
Registering online, however, will not save parents a trip to the school. Parents still will have to go to the child’s school to sign forms and provide the child’s documents.
“It will save the parents some time, but they will still have to take the documents,” said Dr. Ed Tyner, acting chief of the DODDS-Europe education division.
Required registration documents include: copies of the sponsor’s current orders, the sponsor’s ID card and the child’s current immunization records. Transcripts or records from the previous school year also will help, Ransing said, as will an individual education plan for special-needs students.
Parents enrolling kindergarten students also will need to provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate or passport. Emergency contact numbers are also good for the school to have on hand, Ransing added.
“If a parent is or will be deployed, we sometimes need those numbers,” she said.
