A joint coalition force killed a senior Taliban commander Friday during operations in the Musa Qaleh District in northern Helmand Province in Afghanistan, coalition officials in Afghanistan said.

The commander was linked to dozens of improvised explosive attacks that have killed and crippled Afghans since 2001, when the Taliban was ousted, officials said. He was also deemed responsible for the deaths of Afghanistan National Army and coalition soldiers.

The commander’s name was not being released due to security concerns, officials said.
