DARMSTADT, Germany — Authorities evacuated part of Cambrai-Fritsch Kaserne on Thursday due to a “suspicious package” in the base post office, an Army official said.
An explosive ordnance team from Mannheim was sent to Darmstadt during the lunch hour, but found nothing threatening after checking the area and scanning and X-raying the package, said Jayme Loppnow, an Army spokeswoman in the Darmstadt community. As a precaution, authorities evacuated several buildings and the team scanned and took X-rays of the object and the immediate area.
The brief disruption began when a postal employee heard rattling coming from an area where there were several packages, Loppnow said. The Darmstadt military police reopened the area shortly after 1 p.m.
No one was injured in the incident.
