BURY ST. EDMUNDS — The smell of Icy Hot, bananas and athletic tape was in the air as seven high schools gathered at the leisure center here Saturday for a track meet sponsored by Alconbury High School.

London Central boys and girls squeezed out a win by just five points over Brussels High Schools. Lakenheath High School secured the third spot, Alconbury took sixth and Menwith Hill took seventh place.

“It’s always nice to win. We had some people in key positions that helped us out,” said London Central head coach Kim Lassetter.

Freshman standout Chelsy Lewis on the London Central team racked up the points in the hurdle events. She took first in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 100-meter hurdles.

Lassetter also credits the team’s success to the high number of players on the team.

About 250 students attend London Central and 50 of them are on the track team, she said.

Lakenheath High School will sponsor Saturday’s track meet at the same location.
