RAF FAIRFORD — The Croughton men’s softball team captured this year’s U.S. Air Forces in Europe small units softball championship after beating top-seeded Alconbury twice at this remote base on Saturday.

The second-seeded Croughton team was one of three teams to advance to the last day of the five-day tournament. Croughton beat Alconbury in the first game, 19-15, and then again in the championship, 18-14.

Following the first game, Alconbury crushed Germany-based Kleine Broegel, 15-2. Kleine Broegel finished third in the contest.

In the championship, Alconbury went up 2-1 in the first inning, but Croughton came back with a 4-2 lead in the next inning. In the third and fourth innings, the Croughton batters put up 12 runs that helped secure their victory.

Other teams that competed in the tournament were Fairford, Menwith Hill, Sembach, Buechel and Morón.
