I was attached to NSA Da Nang, Camp Literage, and assigned to YFU-18. We transported ammo and supplies to the northern cities — Hue, Tan My, Dong Ha — and a few others on the way from South Vietnam.
I acquired a dog whose owner was being transported back. He gave the dog to me. His name was Tank of all things, being on a Navy boat. He would make the river runs with us, but on occasion he would miss boat movements.
No matter how long our mission took, he would be sitting at parade rest where we beached the boats. He would really go crazy when he saw us docking the boat and as soon as we lower the ramp, he did not hesitate getting on the boat and waiting in the well deck.
He was true blue to the crew, but went with me everywhere.
