SEOUL — Just three days after taking over the Special Operations Command in South Korea, Col. Simeon G. Trombitas was nominated for a promotion.

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has nominated Trombitas for promotion to brigadier general, according to a Defense Department news release.

U.S. Forces Korea commander Gen. B.B. Bell welcomed Trombitas during a change of command ceremony Monday on Yongsan Garrison’s Knight Field. Trombitas replaced former commander Brig. Gen. Rich Mills, who served in the billet for three years.

Bell called Trombitas a “seasoned warrior with an extensive unconventional warfare and combat experience,” according to a copy of the speech.

Trombitas reports to South Korea from a tour on the U.S. Joint Staff in Washington, D.C., where he served as the deputy director for Special Operations in the J-3.
