SEOUL — A military policeman who deployed to Iraq from South Korea died Christmas Day of a noncombat-related injury, according to the Defense Department.

Pfc. Erik R. Wilkus, 20, died at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany after suffering the injury Dec. 22 in Baghdad, according to a DOD news release.

The incident is under investigation, according to the release.

Wilkus was a native of Hamilton, N.J., and a member of the 57th Military Police Company, 8th Military Police Brigade, now based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

The soldiers deployed to Iraq from South Korea in June and their headquarters moved to Hawaii shortly thereafter as part of force restructuring in South Korea. Two other soldiers from the unit, Pfc. Kenny F. Stanton and Pfc. Michael K. Oremus were killed in Iraq in October.
