Soldiers destroy weapons caches in Baghdad
Soldiers operating around Baghdad discovered two large weapons caches including explosives and small-arms, destroying one of them where it was found, officials said Sunday.
In one incident, soldiers of Task Force Baghdad, patrolling in a southern neighborhood of Iraq’s capital, found 34 155mm artillery rounds, two 130mm artillery rounds, eight mortar rounds, 8,500 7.62mm rounds, two rockets and 100 feet of detonation cord. That cache was detonated in place.
Soldiers patrolling north Baghdad found a second cache, which included 22 surface-to-air missiles and 5,000 rounds of small-arms ammunition.
