A 1st Infantry Division soldier who died Friday night from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident was identified Monday as Staff Sgt. Miguel A. Santiago Jr., 47, of Company D, 701st Main Support Battalion.

The fatal collision, which occurred near Harvey Barracks in Kitzingen, Germany, involved Santiago’s motorcycle and another U.S. Army Europe-registered vehicle, said Maj. Bill Coppernoll, 1st ID spokesman. The accident remains under investigation.

Santiago was pronounced dead at about 7 p.m. Friday after being taken to the Würzburg clinic. A native of Puerto Rico, he was a missile repairman.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Larson Barracks chapel in Kitzingen.
