VICENZA, Italy — A soldier based near this northern Italy town was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a train.
The soldier’s name and unit were not released because next of kin have not been notified, said Sgt. Maj. Lawrence Lane, a Southern European Task Force spokesman.
Another soldier was injured in the same incident and was taken to an Italian hospital, Lane said. He was listed in stable condition Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened near Caserma Ederle, the main Army base in Vicenza, around 5 a.m., officials said.
No other soldiers or Italians were involved, Lane said.
