KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The Department of Defense has identified the soldier killed Sunday by a man wearing an Afghan army uniform.

Pfc. Dustin P. Napier, 20, of London, Ky., was killed in Zabul province.

Citing Afghan officials, The New York Times reported Monday that the Afghan turned his gun on U.S. soldiers while they were playing volleyball.

Another American soldier who heard the firing shot and killed the attacker, the Times reported.

Napier was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
