Italian authorities are holding a U.S. soldier assigned to Camp Darby’s 497th Movement Control Team in connection with the Saturday night stabbing of an American airman.

The airman, with the 712th Munitions Squadron at Camp Darby, was treated at a nearby hospital and released on Sunday, according to a release from U.S. Army Garrison Livorno. He reportedly sustained injuries to his torso.

The soldier is being held at an Italian facility in Salviano while Italian and American officials investigate the incident. The base refused to release the identities of either servicemember.

The servicemembers reportedly got into a fight on a beach about two miles south of Livorno. Initial reports have the soldier stabbing the airman.
