A South Korea-based soldier with the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team was arrested Sunday on charges he caused two separate vehicle collisions in one night, according to the Army.

The soldier was being held by his unit Tuesday. He is accused of hitting a taxi in Uijeongbu near Camp Red Cloud, and later in the same evening, colliding head-on with another vehicle in Yangju, the service said in a statement. He was arrested for allegedly fleeing the scene of the taxi collision.

The incident is under investigation by the Korean national police and U.S. military authorities. The Army did not immediately provide additional information on the case.

The service issued a statement saying it deeply regretted the incident and said each soldier receives extensive training on Korean laws and culture upon arrival in the country.
