FORWARD OPERATING BASE HOWZ-E-MADAD, Afghanistan — The six soldiers killed Sunday when a suicide car bomber hit their small combat outpost were with the 101st Airborne out of Fort Campbell, Ky.

They served with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team in the Zhari district of Kandahar.

Those killed were:

Cpl. Derek T. Simonetta, 21, of Redwood City, Calif.

Cpl. Kenneth E. Necochea, Jr., 21, of San Diego

Cpl. Patrick D. Deans, 22 of Orlando, Fla.

Sgt. Willie A. McLawhorn, Jr., 23, of Conway, N.C.

Sgt. Sean M. Collins, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii

Cpl. Jorge E. Villacis, 24, of Sunrise, Fla.

The ranks reflect posthumous promotions.

In the last month Company B has lost nine soldiers to suicide attacks. They operate in the Sangsar area of Zhari, which is where the Taliban’s founding members launched the movement in the mid-1990s.

UPDATE: Collins' rank is now correct.
