A special court-martial begins Monday for a Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily, sailor charged with indecent assault, Navy officials said.

The trial for Petty Officer 2nd Class Jovan Williams, 24, will start at 9 a.m. Monday at Naval Air Station Sigonella II in the courtroom in Building 564.

The charges stem from an alleged incident involving a female sailor also stationed at NAS Sigonella, a U.S. Navy base on the southern Italian island, that took place off-base on Feb. 4, officials said.

It was investigated by Naval Criminal Investigative Service and referred to special court-martial.

No pretrial Article 32 investigation was held.

Indecent assault is a violation of Article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military of Military Justice and is a crime committed against a person who is not the accused’s spouse, and done with the intent to gratify sexual desires.
