’Twas the day before Christmas

And panic set in

No gifts had been ordered

For some of the kin

But if mailed today

It won’t make it on time

Oh the disgrace, oh the horror …

Wait — there’s shopping online!

Procrastinate your way into waiting until Christmas Eve to purchase a gift? Have no fear, the Internet is here.

With lots of options for downloadable gifts just a mouse click away, you’ll save face and, well, save money on wrapping paper and shipping fees.

Web vendors offer a variety of downloadable gift options to brighten recipients’ e-mail inboxes this holiday season.

We’re suggesting more than just gift certificates, here. We’re talking instant gratification.

Available for purchase are books online, downloadable movies and popular television shows, songs, video games, newspapers, comic subscriptions — all a point-and-click away. The gift recipient needs a computer and an Internet connection.

The gift can arrive literally seconds after purchased. There also are personalized e-cards that will let recipients know, in a colorful, interactive or music-playing fashion, that their inbox contains a special little something for them.

Many Web vendors offer downloadable products directly from their Web sites. No need to stress the postal clerks.

Buyers pick the gift, pay the fee, and send an e-mail to the lucky recipient with instructions on how to install, download, activate, initiate or collect their holiday gift.

Choose downloadable music from sites iTunes.com, deezer.com or limewire.com, for example. Want some cool photo-shopping software? Take a peek at seek4gift.com, where you also can buy text translations in 75 languages.

Don’t forget gifts for the little ones. The site superpunch.blogspot.com has downloadable coloring books.

Shopping on the Internet could seem a bit impersonal at first, but put some thought into the gift, get creative and select a present that matches the recipient’s personality.

And it’s great for the eco-minded. Less paper, less trash, fewer trips to the recycling containers.
