SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — Seven employees from the Morale, Welfare and Recreation department here recently were named finalists for seven Armed Forces Recreation Society awards for outstanding contributions to quality-of-life programs.

The awards celebrate people and organizations contributing to the recreation of active-duty military personnel, retirees, families and civilians, according to the National Recreation and Parks Association Web site at www.nrpa.org. The AFRS is the military division of the association.

“MWR is extremely proud of all these nominees. All are very deserving and valuable assets in the department and help make Sasebo one of the best places to live and work in Japan,” said MWR Financial Administrator Daniel Carey.

The 2005 AFRS awards will be presented in October in San Antonio, Texas.

Sasebo’s finalists are the only ones from the Japan region, Carey said. They include:
