A memorial service will be held Saturday for a longtime member of the Heidelberg, Germany, community. Dr. F. George Palmer died Thursday at the Kreiskrankenhaus in Schwetzingen after an extended illness. He was 73.
Palmer was a charter member of the Germany Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He was a life member of the fraternity, where he had been a prominent figure for more than 40 years.
He was also active in several civic organizations, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Palmer lived in the Heidelberg community for more than 40 years and was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by his son, F. George Palmer Jr., a host of nieces and nephews, fraternal brothers, colleagues and friends. The memorial service is scheduled for 12-2 p.m. Saturday at the Mark Twain Village chapel in Heidelberg. Repast will immediately follow the services at the chapel.
