Sergeant sentenced, discharged after writing $41,000 in bad checks
YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — An Army sergeant was sentenced to a bad-conduct discharge and two years in jail during a court-martial here Tuesday.
Sgt. Francis J. Delgrosso was found guilty of disrespect to a senior noncommissioned officer, making a false official statement, damaging military property and writing $41,000 in bad checks, according to an 8th Army release.
Delgrosso cashed the checks over several months at various Army and Air Force Exchange Service stores and Community Bank locations in South Korea.
He was sentenced to eight years, four months confinement but will serve 24 months because of a pretrial agreement and his guilty plea, according to the release. In addition, he was reduced in rank from E-5 to E-1.
Delgrosso also was court-martialed in October 2004, while stationed in South Korea, for fraudulently claiming $9,000 in basic allowance for housing. For that offense, he was busted from E-7 to E-5 and given five months’ confinement.
He is being held in the confinement facility at Camp Humphreys, South Korea.
