It’s nearly that time of year again for the popular “Worldwide Case Lot Sale” at base commissaries.

During the annual Defense Commissary Agency Case Lot Sale, consumers can buy a variety of popular items, from canned goods to paper produces and meats, at roughly 30 percent savings, according to an agency statement.

This year, the third annual Case Lot Sale also features a twist: Commissaries have the flexibility to hold their sale anytime during September rather than all on the same weekend, the statement reads.

However, that means shoppers now will have to check with individual commissaries to find out the date of the event, or go to for dates and times. A complete listing should be available by mid-August.

“This event is becoming a commissary tradition and this year’s event will be even better,” Bob Vitikacs, executive director for operations and product support, said in a statement. “Last year, we sold nearly $10 million in product and saved customers more than $4 million dollars on their purchases.”

Because commissaries sell groceries at cost, making a profit isn’t the motivation behind the promotion, he said.
