The Seoul International Women’s Association will hold its two largest annual charity events next month.
The first, Shanghai Nights, will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Grand Hilton Hotel, and features a silent auction, casino, international buffet dinner, drinks and live music. Tickets are 75,000 won, or approximately $81. Silent auction items include a car, hotel accommodations, round-trip plane tickets, antique furniture, golf bags and spa vouchers.
The SIWA and Diplomatic Community Bazaar will be held Sunday, Nov. 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Grand Hilton Hotel. This year’s bazaar includes international cuisine, products from around the world that will be sold at “country booths,” a lottery, live dance performances, an Indonesian fashion show and Laotian music. Tickets are 10,000 won, or approximately $11.
SIWA is the largest women’s organization in South Korea, with about 400 members from 50 countries. Americans make up the largest contingent of the group’s membership, said SIWA public relations chair Cecilia Yu.
The events raise money for the numerous charities the group supports, including an orphanage and women’s and children’s shelters. More than 4,000 people are expected to attend the Bazaar and more than 400 are expected to attend Shanghai Nights, she said.
SIWA holds tours and events for women, including a monthly coffee.
“It’s a way for expat women to connect to each other and connect to Korea,” Yu said.
Both events have been held for several decades.
