BAMBERG, Germany — A Schweinfurt-based soldier was found dead in his barracks room Wednesday, according to the Schweinfurt garrison public affairs office.
Pfc. AyontiB. Bennett, 20, a native of New Orleans, was pronounced dead by German medical personnel, according to Nathan Van Schaik, U.S. Army Garrison Schweinfurt spokesman.
The cause of death was unknown, and the incident is under investigation, Van Schaik said.
Bennett was assigned to Troop C, 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. He had returned from a 12-month deployment to Afghanistan in November.
A memorial will be held 3 p.m. Friday at the Ledward Barracks base chapel.
He is survived by his mother, Mona, according to a statement released by the garrison.
