SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — A U.S. sailor arrested Oct. 14 on suspicion of attempted murder remains in Japanese custody, according to Nagasaki prosecutors and Navy officials.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew Hahn, 25, a master-at-arms from the base security department, is accused of stabbing a Japanese woman with a knife in Sasebo city the morning of his arrest. Japanese prosecutors can hold prisoners without charges or an indictment for up to 21 days.

The Sasebo Staff Judge Advocate has visited Hahn in jail since his arrest, base officials said.
