Petty Officer 1st Class David A. Hansen, a special warfare operator, was named Pacific Fleet Sea Sailor of the Year and Petty Officer 1st Class Marc L. Stewart, an aviation warfare systems operator, was selected as Pacific Fleet’s Shore Sailor of the Year, the Navy reported.

“These personnel represent the sailors that man the ships, submarines, aircraft squadrons, special warfare and shore establishments that support the operating forces in the Pacific,” Rear Adm. John Bird, deputy commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, was quoted as saying in the release.

Representing Naval Special Warfare Command, Hansen was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and is currently stationed in San Diego at SEAL Team SEVEN.

In July, Hansen will be one of four SOYs meritoriously advanced to chief petty officer. The other three are the Navy’s Atlantic at-sea, shore and Reserve sailors of the year.

Stewart represents Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet and is stationed at Naval Special Warfare Support Activity One, also in San Diego. From this competition, he will head to Washington, D.C., where he will represent the Pacific Fleet at the Chief of Naval Operations Shore Sailor of the Year competition.
