Sailor’s sentencing set for sex crime conviction
Sentencing in the case of a U.S. sailor who pleaded guilty in Australia to using the Internet to groom a child for sex has been set for Oct. 19, according to the New South Wales Attorney General’s Office.
Petty Officer 2nd Class David Wayne Budd flew from Queensland, Australia, to the Sydney airport June 23 to meet someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl.
He was arrested by a member of the New South Wales Police Force’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit who had been posing as a girl online.
Budd pleaded guilty to charges Aug. 22.
